When you think about where YOU fall on the priority list of what’s important, what number are you? If you aren’t first, you’re working too hard taking care of everyone else! It can be exhausting putting their needs before your own. So it’s critical that you take time to do you. Self care is the most important thing you can do for yourself. When YOU feel good, everyone around you feels good too! Remember the saying “If momma isn’t happy, nobody’s happy.” It’s really true even if you don’t realize it.

What Does Self Care Really Mean?

It’s not necessarily what you think it is. When you practice self care, you can gain more energy and feel revitalized. Here’s how you can get started!

You have the ability to change your life and improve your overall wellness by making different choices. You must make a commitment to yourself everyday to…

  1. Eat less processed food and eliminate sugar from your diet.
  2. Practice meditation or other things to calm your mind.
  3. Get up and move to exercise your body.
  4. Spend time in nature and breathe in the beauty that surrounds you.
  5. Express yourself by journaling or through another creative outlet.

Self Care For You And Your Family

Sugar and processed foods are detrimental to your health. Trust me it’s hard giving up your favorite pasta dish, dessert, or fast food whatever. But the reality is you need to. The trick isn’t about quitting cold turkey, it’s about taking baby steps to change unhealthy habits. You can start by reading food labels. Pay special attention to the wording on the label! It doesn’t always mean what you think it does.

A Calm Mind Brings Peace To The Chaos

We live in CRAZY times! And an easy way to calm the chaos is to quiet your mind. Meditation is a GREAT way to do this. The trick to achieving a meditation practice that works for you is to know it’s OK if your mind goes off into different directions. When you realize it, just bring your mind back to your practice. That’s one of the main reasons guided meditation is a good place to start if you’re new to meditating. You’re more focused on what the guide is saying than what’s going on in your mind.

Move More To Get More Energy

This doesn’t mean chasing after the kids or dog! It means finding something that YOU like to do just for you. Yoga, low impact dance, walking, swimming, running, or playing a sport are just a few ways to get started exercising. Just remember that you don’t need to be perfect at any of these. As long as you’re doing something that you enjoy, that’s all that matters.

Enjoy The Beauty Found In Nature

Close your eyes, breathe in through your nose, and then out through your mouth. Imagine yourself walking along this amazing trail with pretty flowers and heavenly scents. The birds are signing and the sun is shining. All of a sudden you come across a spectacular waterfall. How do you feel? What if you actually went outside and felt these things for real, how would you feel then? Pretty good, right? So do it! You may not come across a waterfall on your walk, but you’ll likely experience everything else on your journey.

Let Your Creativity Flow

Self expression is a great way to reduce stress and discover more about yourself. If you enjoy writing, then start a journal to put your thoughts and feelings in down on paper. Not only will you release any pent up emotions, you’ll discover things you weren’t even aware of. Painting, sculpting, or any other creative way to express yourself can bring more joy and happiness to your life.

If you’re serious about taking better care of yourself, start practicing these now! Some of them may not work for you, so try something else. Here’s more ways you can practice self-care for yourself.

Now that you’re aware of the importance of self-care, how are you going to take better care of yourself? Have a self-care practice you swear by? Share it with us!
